Why visit May Gibbs’ Nutcote?

May Gibbs is one of Australia’s best-loved authors, illustrators and artists. She was an early conservationist, Scotty dog lover and much more! May Gibbs taught Australians through her magical adventures that Australia’s unique landscape, plants and animals were to be valued, looked after and wary of! A visit to Nutcote will allow you to appreciate the full scope of May Gibbs’ creative talents, how she lived and to see some of her famous works.

Location
May Gibbs’ Nutcote is at 5 Wallaringa Avenue, Neutral Bay, Sydney.
Opening Times
The museum, gardens, tearoom and gift shop are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11.00am – 3.00pm.
Tours
You should allow 1-2 hours for a good visit to May Gibbs’ Nutcote. We offer two group tours a day the first sta rting at 11.00am and the second at 1.30pm. Lunches, morning and afternoon tea can be worked into these times too!
Minimum and Maximum Numbers
There is a minimum of ten people for a group booking and a maximum of forty. There is a minimum of twenty people in the one house tour at a time, so we usually split larger groups into two (one group starting with the films, the other with the house and then a swap takes place).
Admission Fees
Group admission price is $5.50 per person and includes (Entry to house and gardens). See Refreshments for cost of lunches etc.

Getting to Nutcote

May Gibbs’ Nutcote’s Bib and Bub Tea Room and Nutcote volunteers can cater for morning and afternoon tea as well as a light lunch for your group, served on our terrace overlooking the English Cottage Garden.
  • Tea/coffee – $3.50 per person
  • Tea/coffee and cake - $5.50 per person
  • Tea/Coffee and Sandwiches - $9.50 per person
  • Tea/coffee and sandwiches and cake - $12.00 per person
How to make a booking
  1. Make a tentative booking: please call (if you haven’t already done so) and set a time and date for your visit with approximate numbers and your contact details.
  2. Confirm booking: by sending a deposit of $50.00 along with a completed booking form which is enclosed.*
  3. Finalising numbers and Refreshments: you need to call May Gibbs’ Nutcote if there are any changes to your booking no later than 7 days before your visit.

Conditions of Visit and Booking:
  • Nutcote is an important heritage property listed on the National Estate and all visitors are requested to respect the house, gardens and facilities. Large bags, drinks, food  & cameras are not permitted in the house.
  • Any significant changes to your booking, such as change of date, will incur a $20 administration fee and cannot be made within 5 days of your booking.
  • The number of visitors quoted as attending the tour and/or lunch will be charged for, unless the number of attendees exceeds the confirmed numbers.
  • Cancellation of a visit within 5 days of the booked visit date will result in Nutcote retaining the $50 deposit.
Please note:
  • Please make a copy of this booking form for your records.
  • If you need a copy of the booking deposit receipt prior to your visit, please enclose a staff self-addressed envelope with your deposit and this form.
  • No later than the Tuesday morning of the week of your visit, please confirm numbers and any refreshments required.

 

*Payment can be made by cheque to the Nutcote Trust or you can phone and leave credit card details. If you require receipt of your deposit before the visit, please send a stamped self-addressed envelope with the booking form. You will receive a phone call or email (if provided) from management once your booking is confirmed.
